Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP is not a new treatment but it is relatively new to New Zealand. If you have the kind of skin which is developing that very fine crepe-like lines and wrinkles this treatment is AMAZING!! Also the women I have seen it done to have changed from having very nasty old wrinkled necks to seriously youthful looking young peoples necks. The women I have seen it on have been in their mid to late 40s and early 50s. I’ve also seen some fantastic effects on women in their 60s.
What is it?
The procedure involves drawing some of your blood (like in a blood test) centrifuging it (spinning it very fast for about 8 minutes) so that it separates into the red blood cells and the plasma parts. The rich platelets are then extracted and injected into your skin. This is done under topical local anaesthesia (a gel or cream is applied to your skin to numb it for the injecting)
Areas that can be Treated:
The forehead, crinkling skin around the eyes, cheeks & mid-face, jawline, chest and decolletage, the neck (its incredible in making older women’s necks look so much younger!!) and the backs of the hands and arms, where we really show ageing, can all be rejuvenated with this treatment.
PRP facial rejuvenation can be a one-off treatment, but further microinjections can be re-performed at 4 weekly intervals for lines and wrinkles as you desire.
The entire process and injection time is simple and takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour in total. The process is on the same day and in the same medical clinic.
PRP is enriched with platelets, stem cells and growth factors. Once injected into your skin, these substances will accelerate the normal healing process via new collagen formation at the injected area. This process brings to long-lasting tissue rejuvenation by your own cells. PRP has been widely used for many years in plastic surgery, orthopaedics, dentistry, soft tissue implants, and other types of implants.
How long does it Last?
Depending on the health and age of your skin you usually need about 3 treatments 4 weeks apart. Then touch up treatments to maintain results, then, although results vary, most patients results last up to 18 months. Results are not immediate, initially, you will see and feel swelling from the fluid and then once the swelling has subsided you will not see much at all. Over a few weeks, the platelets will stimulate the growth factors which will assist in more collagen growth, then over the ensuing months, there will be more improvement in texture and tone.
How Much PRP Cost?
A general consensus of clinics tend to be charging about $550 per vial, you need at least 2 for your whole face and 2 for the neck.

More Information About PRP Treatment:
It is for people between the ages of 30 and 80.
Side Effects are minimal, expect minimal swelling, bruising, and redness for 12-24 hours, a bruise at the injection site may be visible for 2-3 days. Bruising is not a bad thing after any injecting procedure as bruising drives collagen to the area so is a good thing in the long run.
Light rolling and cosmeceuticals can enhance results.
Advanced wrinkling cannot be reversed and minimal improvement is predictable in persons with drug, alcohol and tobacco usage.
